What has been worse for the developmentof the black race in America?

I would have to say hip-hop...and it's bleeding into white culture too. I smell a disaster!

to mention crack in the same breath with hip-hop, is absurd and shows a flaw in your knowledge of black culture. Crack which is of course a drug, is detrimental to all people because of it's highly addictive effects and the fact that it serves no purpose but to destroy whatever it enters. Hip hop has many different sides. While there are some very negative overtones in some hip hop, there are also some very positive helmed records which never get play or promotion due to a poisonous stranglehold on music by money hungry record execs. These execs could care less about our communities and the effects of negativity on kids. They worship " the almighty dollar ". Not to mention that most hip hop records are bought by white suburban kids. I tend to lend towards organized racism, unemployment, poor schools, and ineffective leadership in high office as a leading cause to the lack of development in black and minority communities.

The worst thing for the black race was being brought to america in the first place, those that were brought here were brought as slaves and nothing in their lives has been easy since, except maybe getting welfare.

The welfare thing is not a slam(I got contacted because of it) I just mean that black people have to fight for everything that they want from jobs to promotions and etc because of stereotypes. Welfare is the only thing that they do not have to fight for usually. Some still have to(but then again so do white and other colors)

I have to go with slavery and then drugs. Slavery has had more of an affect on the black community than most people realize to this very day. Drugs were distributed throughout the black community to ensure that blacks wouldn't succeed.

Crack. If there was no crack, there would be more responsible parents teaching their kids what should be priority and what shouldn't. Then hip hop wouldn't have so much of an influence.

Crack and BET. It seems every commercial marketed as a service has a black person on it. Like they are so materialistic. The videos the rap artists use are like a generic powerpoint slide templet. Rolls Royce and big naked booty chicks rubbin on them and their car. Same boring yawn yawn marketing. Bad part.... They buy into it. Hey rappers. Just save yourself some money and green screen the jets and cars from each other. Its the same damn thing over and over.

Drugs, with no question. Slavery exists today stronger than at any time in our history. Only now, it's voluntary. And it involves all races, not just blacks.

Hollywood!! where every movie depicts every black and black neighbourhood as devious, corrupt, pimpish, dirty, decrepit. and stupid. Doesn't make for a very rosy picture when viewed abroad.

I'm gonna go with slavery, Jim Crow Laws, and other types of discrimination and institutional racism that cause generation after generation of blacks to be behind.
