Consider this phone conversation:
May I speak to the director?"
"Who's calling, please?"
"John Rominich."
"I beg your pardon, could you please spell your last name?"
"R as in Rome, O as in Oslo, M as in Madrid, I as in Innsbrook..."
"I as in what?"
"Innsbrook."
"Thanks, please go ahead."
"N as in Nome..."
This does not make sense. Why?

because he said "R as in Rome" and then "N as in Nome" (is there such thing as Nome anyway?), so Rome and Nome could be confused over the phone.
Anyway, why doesn't he just spell out the letters instead of giving wierd place names for each letter?

nome is spelt incorrectly....its gnome. The riddle is just meant to throw you off and think there is something more going on.

Because if the phone receptionist knew that it was "I as in what?"; why would they need to know the "as in" part?

because the only litters we say that about them is b and p like (b as in boy) and (p as in pee) that is why
