Why are BMWs driven by idiots?

I have lived in 3 different countries and have noticed that wherever you go BMW drivers are idiots. They don't indicate (turn signal) or stop at crossings. They drive too fast in built up areas. They give a hard time to other road users, tailgating etc. What's up with those guys?

Update:

well... so far nothing thats been said has changed my opinion. I'm talking about many years of living in three different countries. This is not a prejudice, but an opinion i've formed through observation.

What do you drive? What are your driving habits? What countries are you talking of?

I live in Germany and everybody drives the same here regardless if it is a BMW or a Ford KA. If you don't move to the right after passing the car behind will come up to tailgate. If you don't drive at least the speed limit they will tailgate you. Almost everybody uses their turn signal and follows the rules regardless of car.

I believe most US drivers are "naive/uniformed" regardless of the car they drive. With a BMW they are more likely to annoy you because they have a better handling car. I don't think its BMW drivers you have issues with, you just have a harder time noticing someone driving an American spec Ford KA trying to tailgate you versus a BMW which can easily tailgate you.

well first define what is a good driver. how many of those do you actually see in any given day to begin with? <taps chin> I have to really think about this one myself.

Now take a car that has the ability to move with speed, has the ability to handle, etc. Now put that idiot driver into this car. What happens? Exactly what you stated you see.

A child can play a video game pretty well, but put a child into a real car and its run for the hills for safety. Same thing with high performance cars, like BMW. To put a normal daily driver into such a car is like putting a child behind the wheel...they have no real clue to what they are holding onto nor how to handle it.

I deal with high line cars as my career...doing cosmetic and custom paint work.....<looks around to make sure no customers are watching>....I must admit....the higher end the car....the more ignorant the driver. Those that drive rich, fancy, performance cars belong in a limo with a driver....not behind the wheel themselves. Its not the board room after all.

Sometimes that is the case. My BMW is not driven by an idiot, however, these are inspiring vehicles and driving them at anything under the speed limit results in a pain similar to riding a roller coaster with downhill braking. They are extremely capable vehicles that love to be thrown into corners and curves where other vehicles would seem to protest and scream "Get off the gas, leadfoot! Leave me alone!".

People who drive non-inspiring vehicles such as Buicks, minivans, and Tauruses need to restrict their use of the road to the right-hand lane and on single lane roads, realize that there are those of us behind them that do not wish to spend the entire day behind the wheel but have a schedule to keep, and try to go at least the limit. I like to think of the speed limit as the MINIMUM speed, rather than the maximum.

We aren't idiots, we just dont like to follow the rules of the road. We payed big $$$ for our BMW and we want to make the best use out if it. No way I will ever drive my beemer below the speed limit; we've got to show it off, as cocky as that may sound. If you have ever driven one you know why. The wheels move outwards on turns and it gives you such amazing control, allowing you to go 60mph on a turn. Its such an adrenaline rush.

BMWs have tremendous capabilities, so they are sought after by a lot of people who think they're better drivers than everyone else and want to show it.

From BMW's standpoint it's an unintended consiquence of being the best. But because so many BMW enthusiasts are type-A a**holes the brand gets an unfair rap.

My mom has a BMW and she isnt an idiot! But i know why they do the stupid s.h.i.t they do. The allure of the car, is always calling you, the thrill of speeding 70-80 mph is the next best thing to riding a rollercoaster! I can soooo tottaly relate!

I can't answer that question but I can tell you what I think should be done to prevent people from failing to use their turn signals. If you don't use it, you lose it.

Forget giving tickets out. Just smash their turn signals in. If they knew the body of their vehicles were at risk they would probably utilize it more to ensure that wouldn't happen.

They are practicing or the day the are in a high speed pursuit with the cops. BMW are cop magnets I would have one because of that.

Source(s): Saabs, Volvos, Mercedes. Non cop magnet. When was the last time you saw one pulled over by the Highway patrol?
