I personally have always liked the name. There's nothing wrong with it. It's really just peoples opinions. Some may like it while others may not. I am one of those who do like it.

compared to what? Names are all subjective. Would you like to be named "Rae" ... if you see that no harm would come to the child during her formative years for having that name. Why not?

Rae makes me think of two actresses simultaneously: Rae Dawn Chong and Charlotte Rae, two polar opposites. Think about names this way--do you want you child to always have to spell out his/her name to teachers, government workers, police, etc.? Uniqueness is one thing, but keeping it simple and easily recognisable is another.

In Italian "RAI" which is think is pronounced the same was as "Rae" mean king.
Sounds too masculine for a girl.
But it's your child and your choice!
All the best

Rae is frequently a shortened form of "Rachel" (various spellings included) so I think it works just fine.
