Would surround sound using 5.1 channel be better than 6.1 for home theatre system?

    Sound of a 5.1 will originate in front of you and sweep to the side and vice versa.

    A 6.1 (7.1) will do the same, but carry the sound behind you, giving you a more directional and fuller envelopment of the sound making you feel more in the middle of the action.

    The newer games are coming out in 7.1

    In theory, 6.1 is supposed to sound better than 5.1, as 7.1 is

    supposed to sound better than the previous two formats. For

    me, 5.1 is more than sufficient unless you have a large room.

    My preference is "2.2 surround". This system consists of the

    following: 2 good front speakers and 2 good powered subs...
