can a terror attack stall the 2008 u.s.a. election indefinitely if it is detrimental and shocking enough?

Update:

if so, then what would keep someone from staging one and blaming it on political opponents including other countries?

Great question! Yep, that could easily happen. I think that is what they were trying to do when they pulled off 9-11. I mean, I think they were going for dictatorship. But not enough people died.

What a pessamist you are! The answer is no. If it is bad enough, Martial Law would be declared in the area that was affected. However the election would continue as planned.

Look what Rudy did in New York. He suspended the election by a couple of weeks and it still went on. The Secret Service would put the President and Vice President in a secure location until things can be sorted out. The military chain of command would still be intact and the entire Pentagon could be wiped out and our military could still operate. God help our enemies if that should happen, because we would be playing for keeps and we would bomb them back to the stone ages.

So a major terror attack would put a dent in the plans for 2008, but it would not delay it indefinitely.

No I don't think it can, the elections are an integral part of the American government and are extremely decentralized. I don't see any possible way they could disrupt all voting districts in all locations at the same time indefinitely.

Great question. Thanks for raising awareness. The terrorists are most definitely planning for a strike during the 2008 elections.

I dont think so. It would have to be terrible and if it were that bad no one would care who is running the government. It would be all for your self.

yes it can. If in time of war elections can be put oh hold, so to speak.

Not unless it collapsed the main ifrastructure or took out candidates.
