How do you?

I have Microsoft Office XP Standard For Students and Teachers, I have the product key, but when I go to install it, it gets stuck on a certain file while its trying to "copy new files." I can't get it to go past this file. I need to know if I can get a replacement CD or if I can download the software from the internet. I have tried MS Office online but I haven't found anything. Please help me I need to this for school!

Update:

1. My laptop is not even a year old

2. I have tried copying the files to a folder and it still got stuck

3. its not a pirated copy, its legal

4. I don't have any friends that have this verison.

5. the software is like years and years old, I can't take it back.

6. Thank you for your help, I think I'll try to install the custom verison. I'll let ya know.

Update 2:

Oh and I have tried cleaning it first, it has a scratch in it, and also I can't use something similiar to ms office it has to be ms office I've already asked my instructor.

try copying all the files to ur harddrive in a folder and running the installer from there .... also, try doing a custom install and only install the things u need ... maybe there are certain feature omitted from ur pirated copy ...

Try cleaning the CD first. If that doesn't work, you can try borrowing a friend's copy *of the same student version* of the installation CD. It's still legal to do that if you enter your own product key. If that's not an option for you, you might have to get a replacement CD.

i bet you would be able to get a replacement disc for a price. but if you don't want to pay try openoffice.org which is a free office application that has presentation, spreadsheet, word processing, and a few other ones but it has the same functionality as ms office but its free.

Take it back and get a new one. If that doesnt work then may be a problem with the computer not being compatible with that version. How old is the computer.
