Why do people not look to see if someone has already answered a question before asking it again?

Sure glad you asked that.I was just thinking awhile ago.The reason i answer is,when i see a question on the list page,They say no answers,so i'll answer,then after yoy spend time answering you click to send it and then on the answer page you see there's 1 to 15 other answer's.Not alway's that way but a bunch and yes it bug's the S♥♥♥ out of me.Guess it will be that way tho.Of course some people don't care if 20people already answer'ed it,they just want two point's,WHY???? Hope this help'ed you see some people's reason's.( Sorry miss read question,but it goe's for answer's too.sorry.

There are lot of reasons for that:

1. We never have enough time to search.

2. Answers and questions are not posted in the right sections.

3. We all think our questions are more special than others'.

4. ...

5. ...

And after all maybe the person asking a question just needs to communicate a bit?

I'm not sure why people would ask the same question. Maybe they think different people will see it and give different answers. Or it'll give them a bigger variety.

I asked a question about Anna Nicole dying and it didn't say there were any other questions. About 100 people must have posted them at the same time because when it posted I saw at least 20 others right there. So I'm one of the culprits. Sorry.

Well, since they actually LOSE points by asking, it really can't be that. Most people just are SO focused on what they want to know, NOW, that it probably doesn't even occur to them that it has been asked and answered over and over again! LOL! And they never bother to try the help link, or any of the other wonderful support that is on here to let them know the answers to so much of what they ask -- go figure!

I recently was in this situation: I asked the exact same question that was asked a few weeks ago.

Why did I ask it again? Because there was no satisfying answer to the other question. And this time I struck lucky - someone pointed me to a program that I could use to solve my problem.

A hacker friend scanned ip addresses of questioners and best answers and he found that they were often the same.

I think that answers your question. people like asking the same questions over and over again and they like selecting themselves, in a different yahoo id, as the best answer.

Might as well ask why people still watch re-runs of Gilligan's island.

maybe they did look but were unhappy with the answers they saw and wanted a new opinion. but i agree with you. i have just read the same "did anna nicole smith really die" question about 20 times.

maybe they don't see the answer they want to hear...

and if you look at the answers to previous questions, a lot of the best answer chosen, isn't even correct, and the correct answer was one to pick from, people just want to hear what they want, or someone to pacify them, or fawn over them
