weird/personal question about pelvic exam...?

You don't happen to have a Rxd for xanax do you? I always take one before a pelvic.

Shaving is up to you, but by all means, bathe.

Wear something baggy, just in case you're a little sore afterwards.

Close your eyes and take deep breaths. You're weirded out, but the doctor is probably totally blase about the whole thing. He/she may also do rectal exam. That's to feel your ovaries. (ick) and of course a breast exam.

Just plan on taking a nice hot bath when you get home. Make sure to pat yourself on the back for getting thru it. Welcome to the wonderful world of ob/gyn.

Pelvic exams are necessary by the age of 18 or at the time when one starts having intercourse. A pelvic exam is painless and fast. When they insert the speculum you will not feel any pain. The most you may feel is some pressure, minor discomfort. Just be sure to try to relax your muscles. It makes it easier. They will also manually examine your breasts for any abnormalities. As far as shaving, you do not have to do that unless it makes you feel more comfortable. Good luck...it will be over before you know it!

My doctor put me on birth control due to acne, it's done wonders for it :-) I too, was a virgin when I was prescribed the birthcontrol. My doctor said that since I was still a virgin there was no need for a pelvic exam. The pelvic exam is meant to test for a cancer you can only get after you become sexually active. I personally, as well as my doctor, do not see why you would have to get a pelvic exam. Maybe you should try to see another doctor. One who does not require you to get the exam. But, after you become active, you should definately get a pelvic on a regular basis.

Well no, you don't need to shave if you don't want to... uhm... just take a shower before you go and make sure there's someone else assisting the doctor.. the doctorshould never be alone with you. There's nothing to worry about, it's kinda embarrasing, but... it's necesary and natural.

Nah you don't have to do anything. It's not as bad as it sounds. Don't be nervous. I would recommend taking a shower prior to the appt. though. Just for your own piece of mind.

Don't be nervous just be clean, They do this all the time and it want be nothing that hurts. Will just be checking to be sure all healthy down there.

the doc's see the thing every day there not gonna care what it looks like and they just feel aroud to see if everything's ok
