I watched that episode (as I did with every one of the west wing) I'm not sure what she was, maybe a journalist or a governor or something. I think what the President said was something like

' nobody sits when the President enters the room.'

I'm so sorry it finished, I think Jimmy Smit would have made a great President and the series could have gone on, although I would have missed Martin Sheene.

Damn, people got there ahead of me - Season 2, episode, The Midterms. Bartlett gets obssessed with acting against an old rival, Elliot Rausch, who's trying to get elected to a school board in New Hampshire.

The utterly brilliant schene with "Dr" Janet Jacobs includes one of the best chunks of writing I've ever heard:

Edit: Ohhhh, just realised this is the episode with one of THE best opening teasers of all time - "Psychics at CalTech...y'know I'm pretty sure that was supposed to say physicists..." - Cut to Josh banging his head against a wall at home. Kickass episode.

I have every episode on disc, mourned for a week after the last episode was aired, and still cry now and then over this loss. That episode is one of my favorites. Since you already had your answer I just thought I would add praise for an excellent series badly missed on television lately.
