How will Detroit do this season?

I think the Tigers will be in the mix this year and go far. The AL Central is very strong and as far as having to "worry" about Boston in the playoffs, that shouldn't even be a concern, because Boston isn't even going to make it to the playoffs. The Twins will be getting the wildcard, and we know the Yankees are GOING to win the AL East, like they have for the past 9 years.

They made the playoffs last year, and the addition of Sheffield (if he can stay healthy) will improve an already potent lineup. That being said, I don't think they will win the division. They are leaning heavily on pitchers who have had one good year in the bigs, plus an aging Kenny Rogers. Unless Bonderman and Verlander are huge (maybe 20 wins each) I don't see them winning the division. And it is unlikely that the wild card will come out of the Central again this year, with the improvements the Red Sox made. But I do anticipate a fun race this year between the Twins and Tigers, and perhaps the Indians.

The Central belongs to the Can-do Cats. Carlos Guillen will compete for the MVP vote, Maggs will be the first Tiger since Fielder to top 120 RBI's, Craig Monroe will top 30 Homers, Verlander will win 18 games, Fernando Rodney will become the premier AL set-up man for closer Joel "Zoom-Zoom" Zumaya (after Todd Jones gets incarcerated for having an illegal moustache) and Brandon Inge will bat .252. This is the year of the Tiger. World Series bound once again.

As long as Leyland's managing, they'll be good, regardless of how any one player performs.

Having said that, it is the AL Central, arguably the toughest division in baseball (even despite the Royals being a part of it), and as many as 4 teams have a legitimate chance of winning the division (the other team being the Royals, of course).

I still see the Tigers winning the division with another 90+ win season, but they won't go far in the playoffs (especially if they have to face Boston).

With Jim Leyland managing The Detroit Tigers will make the playoffs again. The question is will it be as the wild card or division winner.

I full expect The Twins to be in the thickof things, with Cleveland tagging right behind them.

The White Sox (aka whinny sux) had their 15 minutes of fame, and no longer a threat to anyone.

Last year they slipped to the wildcard. This year they will be battling with Minnesota and Chicago again. Take any of those three teams and flip a coin at this time. The kicker will be if Cleveland can improve. If they do, then expect a four way race, which will electrify baseball. But don't expect three teams with 90 plus victories again if Cleveland is there. I predict 3rd place for Detroit.
