To say that Toyota is scamming and covering up an engine sludge concern is total bunk!! Did you know that Toyota is the only car company in America that has not been told my the NTSB to issue a recall. Toyota is proactive in all recalls and concerns with their product. They still honor a recall on cylinder head gaskets on mid 90 V-6 trucks and will replace the engine if the block is warped. Engine sludge is lack of maintenance and poor car care, period. Only once have I seen a Toyota motor sludged. The oil pickup was almost totally restricted, and the car still ran like a top with proper oil pressure! Lets see any other car manufactures engine do that!

There is no sludge problem in ANY Toyota that has been serviced by Toyota dealers regularly. It's amazing how many people think they can buy one and drive it for 5 years without changing oil, because "it's a Toyota"
Sludge is the result of neglect or using the wrong oil or both. I own a 4 cyl powered Toyota, and there is not a SPECK of sludge anywhere, because I take CARE of the thing.

I personally own a Saab but know exactly what you're talking about. 99% of engine sludge stems from the fact that people don't take good care of their cars. Let her warm up for at least 10 minutes in the winter, or at least until your engine temperature thermometer reaches the half-way point. If you are super nice, you'll let her run for an extra minute after the car is in park. I only know these things b/c my car manual has a letter from Saab stating that 'sludge' has become a problem... it offers mainly those two points as a solution to keep your oil slick.

no, since toyota is the # 2 car maker in the USA its kind of hard to make a good car with all the cars having the same problem, what i think is that you experince sludge because you cant take car of your car and having coolent leak into the engine will turn any engine into sludge

No, I've always thought Toyota was overpriced and overrated. I buy Honda and Nissan and I've never been sorry.
