It is mandatory in many US states (for example, California) and Europe for all TVs to have a low-energy mode.

The only thing that changes is the "boot" time, how fast you are going to see video after you press the power On button.

(the difference can be anywhere from 10-20 seconds, you can time it yourself)

If you are dying for fast boot, then put it on standby, otherwise turn it off (even in off, it consumes some little energy).

If you don'tmind to wait a few more seconds when you turn the TV on, then set it at the low-energy off mode and you will save some money as well.

Well it's best to just turn it off....

But the BETTER question is this....What KILLS a TV set?

Answer : Turning it on....That's when the electromotive forces stress the components, and that's when your TV actually dies and requires a TV repairman...

So it's best to turn it on, leave it on if you're mowing the lawn or making a quick run to the store...Turn it off if you're not watching it for a couple hours. Reduce the amount of turn-ons and you won't require a lot of service over the years.

But for God's sake don't leave it turned on 24 hours a day...that will shorten the Lamp or CRT life....

Why bother leaving it on? Turn it off. Save some electricity and some $$. Strange question.
