Legal-separation- the couple actually file a motion to the court for a legal document stating they are taking a break from the marriage but not ending it.

I don't know the difference, but, I know, when I was 15 years old, my Parents decided on a "Legal Separation" and that's what they did. Separation is when two married people decide to separate for a while to work out their problems. Legal separation is when you go through an attorney, and divorce is when you have been legally separated for a year, sign papers and are no longer married.
