Encroachment is basically offsides. A neutral zone infraction is any penalty on offense or defense that occurs in the neutral zone.

A nz infraction refers to a defensive player jumping across the line of scrimmage, and an encroachment penalty involves touching an offensive player...penalty is 5 yards for both.

Encroachment: When a player enters the neutral zone and makes contact with an opponent before the ball is snapped.

NZI: a defender enters the neutral zone, causing the offensive player in close proximity to react immediately (move).

(the 3rd commonly associated one, offsides, is being over the line while the ball is put into play (usually snapped) )

Enchroachment is when a defensive player goes offside and actually touches an offensive player. A neutral Zone infraction is when a defensive player is lined up exactly with the football when he is supposed to be behind it.
