Just a fine point - you don't need a digital SLR to be able to use a 1 GB card. The larger capacity cards will work with point and shot digitals as well.

Also, most digital cameras - even the SLRs - come with very small memory cards. You will have to buy the larger capacity memory cards separately, but the prices are coming down.

Finally, it isn't worth paying a premium for "high speed" memory cards. The speed at which the camera saves the image data to the card is determined much more by the camera electronics than by the card itself.
