Security light in a 2001 Saturn?

I have a 2001 Saturn SL1, and last night my roommate noticed the security light was blinking. When I went to unlock my door and investigate, it stopped. Same thing this morning - blinking, but it stopped once I unlocked the door - but a couple hours later I went to drive home and the light wasn't on, so I thought it was fine. Just now I looked out the window and it's flashing again. Any clue what's causing it? The manual says nothing about a situation like this.

Update:

...

So I'm just an idiot and never noticed it before?

Light flashing = system armed and ready

Light out = system off (you've used the key to open it)

Sorry fellow, but you should have never tried to do that. It will not start since it isnt seeing the key & it will never start using the screwdriver either. This is a security issue to prevent it from being stolen & it will not start since this would be the same way theives would do to steal your car. So it doesnt start with them & it aint going to start for you. The only way you will get it started is to tow it to a shop or dealership & let them fix it. You can see if a locksmith can fix it if you didnt damage to the cylinder housing too much!!!!!! But if you damaged the housing as well, your just running up the cost by continuing to try & make it work. These newer cars were designed so they cant be stolen
