Why are Siamese connections (FDC) used for fire fighting?

    They are a "Y" pattern Fire Department Connection used on the downstream side of a back flow preventer or on the building itself to draft and recirculate the water at higher pressures and then reintroduce the higher pressures back into the internal fire sprinkler system of a building. This is in the hopes that it will put the fire out or contain it prior to the fire men's entry.

    They are used to connect multiple hoses or pumpers to the piping system for supply or pressure of fluids to fight the fire.

    The term is like two persons connected - therefore multiple hoses connected
