aside from the time of the month they occur - there are similarities and differences between them. Menstrual cramps radiate from the pelvic area and can cause stomach upset.
An upset stomach would be higher in the belly region.
If it's close to your menstrual time of the month and you are having a stomach ache, that can be attributed to the onset of your period, and can be devoid of cramping.
So you see they can all be tied in together - along with a headache, achy joints, tiredness, migrane, fainting etc.

Great question! I'm 45 and I can't always tell the difference! Right now I'm cramping, and it could be because it's almost time for 'Auntie Flo' to visit, but it could also be because I ate broccoli and cauliflower yesterday. When mine are menstrual cramps, heat and Tylenol help. When they don't, I reach for the Gas-X!
Best wishes!

If you are bleeding(or will be soon), then they are menstrual related. I always get nauseous around that time of month.

a stomach ache is a terrible pain and you can't get out of bed. Menstral cramps, you can basically still go to work and deal with it!
