Why do groups like the American Family Association hate NPR and PBS?
I think these Government run media stations show only educational and culture enriching programming.

Because AFA is an extreme right winger they want to keep people naive and stupid to run their own agenda.Where as NPR and PBS enlightens the ones who watch their programs.

These media stations run by public support and present the truth without commercial motives. Their stress is more on educational and culture enriching programming. They show more of the news than view and biases. I do not know much about the American Family Association but if they hate these stations, American Family Association is scared of the truth being revealed by these stations.

Groups like the AFA are typically opposed to anything that presents an opposing viewpoint to theirs, something that NPR and PBS do in spades... and with some government support. Both NPR and PBS belong to a world of relative open mindedness and with focus on things based on empiricism and observation rather than doctrine. As a result, you tend to see or hear shows with a variety of viewpoints, including ones decidedly unfriendly to the likes of the AFA.
Some might argue that both organizations have a significant liberal bias, in a sense that's true, but then, that's an accusation that will stick to any group with an open-minded, empirical approach. PBS, in particular, is a fairly open forum available to both conservative and liberal viewpoints. If it appears to track leftist, that's because it also, as a partly government funded broadcaster, is an easier distribution channel for small, alternative groups to access. Since this contributes to the free marketplace of ideas, this is a good thing.

Some people tremble in their boots at the mere thought of the word tax. So in order to fund an unnecessary war without raising taxes to fund it some prefer to raid NPR and PBS as well as veterans medical benefits to pay for it. This way they can brag that they didn't raise taxes. They know that Social Security is off limits or they would have already emptied that account and have to go after something else. I am curious what funding cuts will be next so the war will be paid for without a tax increase.
By the way those stations are less bias toward one side or the other and that makes them dangerous to those who would cover their actions.

I would suspect it is because PBS, in particular, is too open about their programming, at least to their minds. They don't hesitate to show programs that, for instance, question literal interpretations of the Bible, or show scientific progress on issues the AFA avoids - like determining the age of the universe, evolution issues, etc. They have progressive programming that showcases the truth of issues the AFA would rather stay buried - like the progress of science in showing homosexuality to be innate. They also promote the idea of equality and social progess in general, something the AFA abhors. Just last year they had a series on defining who Jesus really was and to the AFA's dismay, they actually had the audacity to show both sides of the issue. So, there were historians debunking Biblical stories as not being literally true, right next to theologians claiming the opposite. I guess it's dangerous in their minds to show both sides of an issue. It would be preferable not to give people the information to cause them to start doing something as radical as critical thinking about the world around them and their place in it.

I agree with the above, AFA is very much the religious right/neocons and NPR and PBS just gives the news as it is and doesn't try to slant either way. They have had balanced news every time that I have watched them. They at least try to show the other side, which is something that the religious right is afraid of. I agree that Sesame Street and Arthur ARE very educational and culture enriching. My kids LOVE watching Curious George!

Cause their ultra right wing bigots. They hate anything that doesn't fit into their ideals.

They are afraid their friends and followers and family members might actual learn critical thinking. They want to keep everyone dumb so they won't be independent and get "uppity."

Actually government media provides government propaganda, slanted to advance the idea that all good things come from government and people are helpless without it
