No, essential oils and mineral oil are not the same. Mineral oil is a petroleum product, a by-product of the production of gasoline. Essential oils are plant products that are extracted primarilly by steam distillation. Are they safe...some people swear by mineral oil for specific applications (cosmetic uses and body care) while others think that is an inferior product. I cannot make a broad statement about the use of essential oils because there are so many with varied uses, indications and contraindications. If you are using a purchased product that contains essential oils, the percentage is probable very low, the scent is likely enhanced by the addition of a synthetic fragrance. If you are going to purchase pure essential oils and make your own products, please educate yourself about the uses of each oil.

Mineral oil is a little crude but it uses minerals to help freshen the face. Ess. oil is a little more expensive cuz its a little more smoother and less crude for your face, rare in beauty products, but expensive.

Mineral oil is from rocks, or petroleum.
Essential oils are distilled from plants, mostly flowers.
