Do people like Fiction War novels more than Non-Fiction novels?

I am debating about writing a book about a historical ancient war. Im not sure to make it made up or factual information. I am planing on writting about Greece or Rome with thoose wars but i do not know if i should just make up general names and other what nots or if i should really research it and make it ture but slightly fiction, since its a novel. What do you think will be best?

Historical novels are my favorite literature. James Michener was, in my opinion, the master of this genre and the greatest American author. I also have great respect for Patrick O'brian. Read these guys if you want to see how it's done.

If you're writing in the form of a novel you don't have much choice but to make up a lot of the details because you won't find enough minute detail in documented history. That's why historical novels use fictional characters even though the setting and major events may be historical.

    Good luck with your writing.

fiction, cuz every great story has to make you feel for characters, a story without characters just isnt a story to me, and how are you gonna have characters that the reader cares about in a non-fiction account of the war

many times i do not look after non-fiction, yet "The Minds of Billy Milligan" by Daniel Keyes is a non-fiction e book that reads like fiction. that is about Billy Milligan, a guy with 27 distinct personalities and what brought about them, the adjustments between them, and issues that each did. that is between the most suitable books i have ever study.

I don't thinks it's so much whether it's fiction or non-fiction so much as how well the story is told.
