Why does the air from the A/C smell bad after switching from the heater to the A/C?
This is only an issue around this time of the year and in the fall (when we need the heater for the nights and mornings, and then we need to switch it to air conditioner sometime during the day). Going from A/C to heater doesn't smell bad, but it does going from heater to A/C. Anybody know why?

Dust and dirt collect on the cooling fins. When you turn on the A/C they get wet.
You can clean these fins carefully, like with Formula 409 spray. Then use a quality pleated air filter to minimize the junk that would collect on the fins in the future.

In addition to dust and dirt, you potentially have old mold and mildew on the coils. That is why it is recommended to have U.V. lights shining on the A.C. coil.
