Was it wrong for the SEC to fine Vanderbilt for charging the court?

They beat the No 1 team in the country. I personally do not like Vandy, and think their coach acted like a jack@ss with Noah, but I think the $25.000 fine is a little ridiculous.

As a former Volunteer court rusher, I hate that schools get fined for their enthusiasm. But as we saw on TV in that melee, a Florida player got shoved. He's apparantly in trouble for retaliating and might get suspended. If the students can't handle themselves properly, they shouldn't rush the court. Gotta keep players safe.

As for the fine, it was too steep.

And as for Stalling's second stupid act (first was calling Bruce Pearl an idiot ****** in front of media people), he should've been fined. I thought the refs were out of line hauling Noah off like he was starting something. They should've T-ed that moron Stallings up right there.

While I do not believe that it was wrong to act, as their charging the court is a dangerous act to all the players, cheerleaders, etc who are already on the court, charging $25,000 is just a tad excessive... especially since their isn't really anything that Vandy could've done to stop a bunch of drunk college kids from charging the court...

Maybe something towards the people who ACTUALLY stormed the court would be more effective... Perhaps not allowing them to buy any more tickets for the season? Yes, there would be loopholes, but most of the people wouldn't bother finding them, and it would send a message to all the idiots who thought it would be a good idea.

Instead, maybe they should make them use that $25,000 on hiring new security guards (or more) to actually put it to use instead of wasting it. Charging the school money will not teach the fans a lesson about not endangering the people on the court at all.

Yeah that was ridiculous. My little brother is a freshman at Vanderbilt and he said that when they won that game, it was like the biggest game that they had ever won. Everybody was so excited. They were even selling DVD's of the game in the book store. I mean a team that is constantly crushed in football, basketball, and most other sports, they should be allowed to celebrate after beating the number one team in the country that hadnt lost in 17 games. I just hope that if they are gonna fine Vandy then they need to fine Arizona State.

Hey, as long as theSEC fines all their teams for doing the same thing its up to them. Let's face it: fans storming the court (or the football field, for that matter) is dangerous, not just for the fans but for members of BOTH teams. I'd try to discourage it and if fines helped conference schools boost security to avoid it, so much the better.

On the other hand, consider that $25K is perhaps 5% of the gate plus concessions for a game so its not exactly breaking anyone's back.

Yes it was wrong to fine the school. The students don't care if the school has to pay. Let them go on the court in a way that doesn't get people hurt. First time someone gets hurt, identify all they can and kick them out of the gym for a year.

It's a tradition to storm the court after a big win. It has happened in the past and it will continue in the future. The NCAA needs to lighten up ... storming the court and ripping down goal posts in football is part of the allure in college sports because you never get to see that type of emotion at the pro level.

The fine is silly, they should fine schools who storm the court when their teams beats a #6 ranked team insted of a 1

It is very ridiculous. How often do you get to see your team beat the #1 team in the nation? Hopefully once in your time at college, but most likely not, so come on let them rush the court.
