My car is telling me to replace the turn signal, but after replacing the bulb, it still doesn't work?

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. About a week ago on my way home, I turned on my right turn signal, and the display center in my car said the "Right Front Signal" needed replaced. I checked and sure enough it was not working. I went to the auto parts store and got a new bulb, and replaced the old one. I turned on the key to check the new one, and it still didn't work. I'm not sure what my next step should be. I would rather not pay to have it looked at and then find out it is something I could have fixed on my own, but I do want to get it fixed before I get a ticket.

Thanks!

i own a repair shop and try cleaning the area where the bulb goes,it might not be making good contact, usually that's all it is wrong with it,also make sure you put the right size bulb back in it,its probably just not making good contact in the socket, and if you clean it or re-shape the prongs it touches on to make it work,i should start working again, good luck i hope this help,s.,,PS check the rear bulb also, sometimes the information center is not always right on these things, good luck.

It is a matter of connections.

Thinking to bulbs with the brass bottoms and that screw in::check the socket where the bulb screws into. It may have dirt or rust or corrosion that is preventing a connection. Sandpaper on the end of a finger or pencil will help. Also look at the end tab and be sure it is clean and is pressing against the bulb. Wiggle it a bit and try the signals again.

does the rear signal work? if not, it may be the relay (those are found under the hood). if the rear right signal DOES work, then you are looking at a wiring issue.

    * make sure you have the bulb installd correctly and that the filament is good on the one you are installing.

Replace the turn signal relay unit
