Mashed potatoes are usually made by adding milk and butter, with salt and pepper to taste in the mashing process. Boiled potatoes you can add parsley, a little olive oil and garlic salt for a tasty side dish (use red potatoes). Your choice, both are good but the healthier of the two would be boiled with the skins (red potatoes).

Mash, absolutely completely definitely. Boiled potatoes are the most boring form of potato, unless they're really gorgeous new ones, and mash is the nicest of almost all foods in the known universe. Just potatoes, butter, salt and pepper.

I wish I had some potatoes in the kitchen!!

You have received so many answers, all of which, in their way are good.

You cannot compare boiled with mashed. It all depends on what you are serving your potatos with !!

In preference, I would go with mash (made with a ricer). Salt, pepper and creme fraiche (single cream is O.K.).

Plain and simple, so as not to overpower the flavours of your main dish, yet rich enough to be special.

Mash is mashed boiled potatoes - therefore no significant difference other than texture.

Not sure what the question means, but I prefer mashed potato with cheese and spring onions. I think they call it champ in Ireland.

Gotta be mashed there are so many ways to make them. Just plain or sour cream add some cheese or yummy garlic. And always butter. You cant have any potatoes without butter.

I FOUND THESE RECIPES ABOUT A YEAR AGO. MY FAMILY DEMANDS THEM AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. THEY ARE SO DELICIOUS, YET VERY EASY TO MAKE. ENJOY.

    INGREDIENTS

5 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed

    1/2 cup butter

    1/4 cup milk

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

    1 onion, grated

    1 egg

    salt and pepper to taste

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add potatoes, and cook until tender but firm, about 15 minutes; drain.

In a large bowl, mash potatoes with the butter and milk. With a hand mixer, beat in cream cheese and onion. In a small bowl, beat the egg with a little bit of the mashed potatoes. Stir into potatoes, and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a 2 quart casserole dish.

Bake 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until puffy and lightly browned.

    INGREDIENTS

    1 medium head garlic

    1 tablespoon olive oil

2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and quartered

    4 tablespoons butter, softened

    1/2 cup milk

    salt and pepper to taste

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Drizzle garlic with olive oil, then wrap in aluminum foil. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes, and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool and chop. Stir in butter, milk, salt and pepper.

Remove the garlic from the oven, and cut in half. Squeeze the softened cloves into the potatoes. Blend potatoes with an electric mixer until desired consistency is achieved.

I only like boiled if they are new potatoes, like mash with gravy, or Jacket

Mashed with a little butter and milk, with sausages. Boiled are good, and roast, or curried are very nice. Sliced on top of a casserole in hot pot is yummy too.
