Unless you know the standard deviation your score is meaningless. Also, most people have no idea because they have never taken a professional test.
My IQ is somewhere above 3 standard deviations over the norm. Now then, were I to report to you my IQ using a standard deviation of 500, my IQ would be over 1600.
This is why it is good to know the standard deviation ;) Which is usually 15, but some people report it as 24 to boost their score significantly.

It is what is called your "Intelligence Quotient", which is just another way of saying 'what your mind is capable of doing if put to the test.' The average is 100 points.
The lower it is, the less intelligent you are considered to be. Geniuses have IQs of over 140, as a rule, although many are much higher than that.
It is your ability to solve problems. Although it is rather an arbitrary measurement, it does work as a fairly good guideline.
They found that not allowing for cultural differences could make someone look less-smart than they actually are, so they are supposed to tailor the test to allow for this.
We all like to think we're smart. "Oh, my IQ is off the map ~ they can't measure mine! ", one person trying to impress me said.
Yea whatever, I doubt it or you wouldn't have to boast about it, I thought.
You can actually improve your IQ by learning; anything your brain has to WORK at, anything you learn mentally....actually creates new neural pathways (synapses) The brain itself is physical, and needs to be excercised! Chess, crosswords, intelligent conversation all help.
Wow, this is a bit long, but I hope it helped.
Last thing, it's not THAT easy to find out what your own is; you have to take a test which is a genuine one ~ not one of the many pseudo ones around. Your nearest university could tell you where to go.
