No, this is not a joke.

What keeps a polar bear from freezing to death? The North Pole is a wretched place to live.

Thick fur and a layer of blubber help keep the polar bear warm. Small ears and furry feet also make sure that very little heat escapes their bodies.

    1. They have thick insulating white fur that keeps cold out and the heat in. If you have an infrared camera on a polar bear, it would show very few areas where heat escapes.

    2. They have a thick fat layer that insulates them from the cold.

Two things: they have a fat layer that helps keep them warm, both by acting as insulation, and by providing energy to burn; and, they have a very dense undercoat of fur that keeps their body heat in.

the fat is one thing. the other is that under the white hair the polar bears skin is black. as you should know dark colors (black) absorb heat.

Hey Van, maybe you shouldn't answer anymore... it's called blubber. Flubber was from an old movie (and a remake).

Source(s): Flubber is a 1997 film produced by Disney starring Robin Williams and Marcia Gay Harden. It is a remake of the 1961 Disney film, The Absent Minded Professor. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flubber
