Do YOU believe in Global Warming?
hey. doing a paper about global warming. and i would love to get some opinions on what the general public feels is real, false, or exaggerated.
i would especially love to hear from anyone that thinks it's totally made up....or extremely exaggerated.
tell me as much as you want!!!

Global warming is real. I, and 99+% of all scientists believe that.
The problem with analyzing climate is that there's only one way to do it. You must look at a lot of data and do methodical analysis.
When you do that, all the ideas for it being natural are completely destroyed. But it takes data, not intuition. Here goes.
Solar variation. Carefully measured data on solar radiation (done repeatedly by many people in many places) shows the increase in solar radiation is 0.12 watts per meter squared. The increase in heat due to man's activities is 1.6 watts per meter squared, more than ten times as much.
http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf Page 4.
Volcanoes. They create about 1% as much greenhouse gas as man does, and they create dust, which cancels that out.
http://www.geology.sdsu.edu/how_volcanoes_work/cli...
The natural world is incapable of absorbing the excess CO2 that man creates by digging up carbon buried naturally over many many years, and burning it real fast. The small teeth are nature (seasonal variation), we're the big surge upwards. We're "winning" big time.

Serious people know that just arguing generalities doesn't work here, you actually need to look at the data, or check with someone you trust who has.
The people below have done that. They are mostly not liberals, or environmentalists. They didn't get their information from Al Gore (mostly they're mostly no fans of his, and they know Gore has absolutely nothing to do with the science). They're serious people and they got their information from the best scientists in the world. They also know about people who thinks it's natural, and they have listened to them also. They're not buying it. They think humans are the cause. You may not respect all of them, but surely you respect some.
"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."
James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.
"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."
Russell E. Train, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford
"Global warming is already starting, and there's going to be more of it. I think there is still time to deal with global warming, but we need to act soon. Humans now control global climate, for better or worse."
James Hansen, PhD, climate scientist, NASA
"By mid-century, millions more poor children around the world are likely to face displacement, malnourishment, disease and even starvation unless all countries take action now to slow global warming."
Michael Oppenheimer, professor of geosciences and international affairs at Princeton University
"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California
"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."
John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona
"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."
President George Bush
And the data is why the vast majority of scientists think it's not natural, but us. It's not even close.
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/570...
People can trot out all the "logical" arguments they want. They can attack Al Gore's personal life. Or cite one of a few scientists who disagree with the basic ideas. But the scientific data is completely overwhelming. This is the best summary of it right now. Thousands of scientists created it, and it underwent massive peer review. It's solid, and actually very conservative, as anything created by a large group of people is.

Global warming is real and it's us. Denying it is not scientific, it's right up there with denying we went to the moon or saying someone has a perpetual motion machine.

I've seen it with my own eyes and felt it on my own skin. Global Warming is very real and I've known it's where-abouts way before this "global warming craze". The ocean in my city Virginia Beach gets noticably higher every year and the city spends millions every year putting down new sand to keep it from flooding Atlantic Av. We make a lot of money off tourists and that is a huge spot not just for them but for locals too and soon enough it's going to be all gone from people who don't take responsibility for their effects or more like Deffects. Every year the weather gets crazier too.

Global warming is real ! It is a scientific fact that each year, the summers get hotter and winters are less and less. All you have to do is research the weather of the past and compare that to our current weather. The Bible even speaks of the Earth burning up in the end of days when God creates a new Heaven and a new Earth. I look at it this way, the bible speaks of it and many scientists acknowledge it too. Many scientists who are not christians even accept the Earth's warming. I may be a christian but please, you don't have to be a christian to understand the facts which are layed out right before our eyes. The Earth is getting hotter and hotter.

There is no question about it. Global warming is occurring.
"While the causes and effects of global warming remain a topic of debate, there is a general scientific consensus that temperatures around the world are rising, said Michael Changery, a climatologist at the U.S. National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C." (Fox).
"The average global surface temperature has risen just over 1 degree Fahrenheit since 1880, and one of the leading culprits is believed to be an increase in carbon dioxide from increased human activities, Changery said" (Fox).
"Keeling and co-author Timothy Whorf, a geophysicist at Scripps, suggest in their study that air temperatures cool when strong tides bring cold water from the depths of the ocean to the surface. Weaker tides, on the other hand, don't mix the ocean as well and result in warmer air temperatures, the study suggests" (Fox).
"The authors don't know the precise effect these cycles have on the air temperature, but believe the current warming trend began around 1500 and will continue for another 400 years" (Fox).
"Leaders of one of the nation's top scientific organizations issued a new warning this week that human activities -- most notably the greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and other industries -- are warming Earth's climate at a faster rate than ever" (Perlman).
"It is scientifically inconceivable that after changing forests into cities, turning millions of acres into farmland, putting massive quantities of soot and dust into the atmosphere and sending quantities of greenhouse gases into the air, that the natural course of climate change hasn't been increased in the past century" (Perlman).
"Although they cannot yet predict the pace of change, the scientists did declare that since 1900 more than 80 percent of the atmosphere's heat-trapping carbon dioxide -- the major greenhouse gas -- has been caused by fossil fuel burning and changes in land use. They also said that levels of the gas "may be rising faster than at any time in Earth's history, except possibly following rare events like impacts from extraterrestrial objects" (Perlman).

i do believe in global warming. There R 2 many signs 2 ignore.
i wrote an essay on global warming 2! I learned so much. here R some sites.

Also, u can rent "An Inconvienent Truth." It's very eye opening. here's the site...
I doubt u'll wanna read it, but here's my essay...use whatever info u want!
The Future's In Our Hands
What do you think of when you hear greenhouse effect? Melting glaciers, rising oceans, and hotter summers most likely. What most people don't know is that the greenhouse effect is necessary, if you appreciate living, that is. Without it, earth would average about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Life as we know it could not exist. Unfortunately, something that is meant to help keep us alive is now slowly hurting both us and our planet. By burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas, and oil and cutting down trees we have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere and temperatures are rising. The effect is global warming. The damage it has done is apparent to anyone who takes the time to look.
The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes in the last 30 years has doubled, the flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland has more than doubled over the last decade, malaria has spread to higher altitudes in places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet above sea level, and at least 279 species of plants and animals are moving closer to the poles. If the warming continues, we can expect catastrophic consequences.
Global sea levels could rise over 20 feet, droughts and wildfires would occur more often because of more frequent and intense heat waves, and deaths could double in just 25 years (about 300,000 people a year). The Arctic Ocean could be completely ice free in the summer of 2050. By then more than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction.
Yes, 2050 is a long ways away, but just because this is not out of control today doesn't mean that our children won't have to deal with these horrible living conditions after we die. If we start changing today, we might be able to come up with a better tomorrow.
Let's think about the numbers. 200 million! That is the number of people that could be displaced by more intense droughts, rising sea levels, and flooding by the year 2080. 358. That is the number of U.S. mayors who have signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement pledging to meet or beat Kyoto goals in their communities; yet 0 is the number of federal bills passed to cap America's global warming pollution, and 1 is the number of times President Bush has mentioned "climate change" or "global warming" in his previous six State of the Union speeches.
This reminds me of something Upton Sinclair once said, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon not understanding it." The president and big companies have done nothing to change our current crisis because there's big money in the biggest fossil fuel of them all, petroleum (which is used to make gasoline, plastics, etc.). If everyone stopped using gas powered cars and started driving electric cars, they would lose money. If everyone started using recycled goods, there would be no more need for making more. They only care about making money, not the future of our country or the world.
Although you may not realize it, there are so many things you can do to help stop global warming. Not many people know that there are so many little changes that can greatly alter this seemingly imminent disaster. They are so simple you can start tomorrow!
Replace three frequently used light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs and save 300 lb. of carbon dioxide a year, not to mention $60 a year on your electricity bill. Install a low-flow shower head. Using less water in the shower means less energy to heat the water. This will save you 350 lb. of carbon dioxide and $150 a year. Unplug unused electronics because even when electronics are off, they still use electricity. Carpool when you can, buy minimally packaged goods, insulate your water
heater, and air dry your clothes. Take a little extra time to do a few of these simple things and tell your friends, neighbors, and family members about it too. Switch to a renewable energy source. Speak up to the government about passing energy saving laws. You never know, maybe a few simple things we do may alter the future of our world. If every person changes one little thing a month, the effects could become noticeable very quickly.

Yes I Do Believe in Global Warming,Because It's The cause of too much heat & too much cold
- WildernessguyLv 41 decade ago
Global warming as a theory may actually have some legitimacy, but that humans are responsible for it is a pretty far leap. I personally think that it's more due to the cycles of the planet. If you remember, this planet experianced a huge ice age that we knew about, as well as a time when the planet was covered with live volcanos and was extremely hot (during the Dinasours time frame). I don't think that CO2(a gas that sinks I believe) can float up to the ozone layer and put a hole in it.

What we call global warming is the result of overpumping of underground water all over the dry countries of the planete. This reduction of humidity give to the sun rays to increase the température of rocks instead to make biomasse.
The reduction of biomasse diminuish the co2 recycling and add give higher temperature in the atmosphere.
CO2 is natural gaz en green effect is natural too .
We have to irrigate the drylands again and stop overpumping but also deforestation, drainage, waterprof surfaces etc....
This phenomenius is hide but it is the solution fot the futur.
First we have to convince the scientists to look in that way of thinking

Complaining about the cold is definitely the most uninformed, not to mention annoying, way of trying to denounce global warming. We're talking about fractions of a degree. Not enough for us to notice, but definitely enough for the ice caps.
The earth goes through natural heating and cooling stages. Ever heard of the ice age? However, it's undeniable that human CO2 emissions are having a large effect on the Earth, likely accelerating global warming and most definitely destroying the ozone layer. This doesn't even begin to cover the health hazards of smog in large urban areas such as Los Angeles.
There are dozens of reasons to reduce emissions. Helping slow down global warming is one of them, but not the only one.

While there appears to be a problem with global warming, I do not believe that mankind is as much at fault as some would have us to believe that we are. There are other natural causes taking place that have to be considered as well. Other events such as the proliferation of animals, since methane is a green house gas. Increases in plant life, micro, and macroscopic in proportion that is aiding the problem. There are a number of reasons for it, lets keep things in perspective, rather than being like "chicken little" saying that just man is at fault.

No. 1/2 of scientists says it exsist's, the other 1/2 says it doesn't. There is no actual evidence Global Warming is true. Ask yourself, is it hotter in the summer, than what you have felt before, or colder in the winter? I am not asking about record breaking temps, that happen sometimes. That has always happened since the beginning of time. I mean period, are all your summers hotter, or winters colder, since you heard the words global warming?
