    Hello,

The actual costs cannot be claimed. As a college student you will receive a T2202 from your school which will show the eligible tuition paid for which a tax credit is available. As well, the T2202 will provide the number of full time and part time months in which you attended qualified post secondary schooling.

For each month there is an education tax credit. The education amount is $400 for each full time month in school, and $65 per month for each part time month.

New in 2006 there is also a Textbook Credit. This credit is $65 per full time month and $20 per part time month.

The education and textbook credits are supposed to be in recognition of supplies, books etc. The dollar value of the credits the total amount X 15.5% for the federal value. Each province will also apply a rate to calculate the credit which is on top of the Federal amount.

Good answer, CGA... pretty much what I was going to say, but I don't think I would have worded it so clearly. =)
