Pick a best answer!?

Any ideas on why people let a question go to voting? Sometimes I put a lot of effort into my answers, hoping they will really help someone. When you don't pick its usually the first answerer that gets the 10pts and that's not usually fair. What do you guys think?

Too busy is a big reason, but especially when you have a lot of questions, YA's system is difficult to manage. First, let's say you want to pick a best answer after an hour. You're not allowed. They insist you wait at least four hours even though they don't promote the question after the first few minutes.

The next thing you know they say a question needs your attention. You click on your picture, then click on questions, then expand it to a full page, then find the subsequent page where a question is highlighted. You click on that and find out there is another 24 hours for answers. You ask yourself: "Well, I wanted to vote for best answer before. Now am I giving this one a chance for more answers to come along or am I not?"

Next thing you know the question has gone to voting and they don't allow you to choose best answer at all at that point! Whose fault is that???

They get the answer early in the answer period and they don't care anymore so they leave and don't come back to pick a best answer. Or they might have too many that say the same thing and don't know which to pick. Or none of them were that good. Or they were all too good, so he doesn't want to pick. Those are probably the most likely reasons. If asker doesn't choose best answer it goes to voting and you could still be picked. but it's usually based on a vote or 2, so it's not usually fair... people will vote stupidly on answers to others questions, but that's YAs. You can vote on your own though.

I think some people just get busy and don't have time to come log back on within the applicable time limits. It's not always that they're being inconsiderate.

You're right about it usually being one of the first answerers (though I'm not sure it's always the 1st answer) that gets picked as "best answer." I've noticed it's usually someone in the 1st 6 answers that gets voted in so I don't even answer questions that already have a lot of answers.

But I don't worry about it if it goes into voting. I figure that the person who asked the question and then failed to choose the best answer just rooked themselves out of 3 easy points so that's their punishment.

Sometimes I try to pick a best answer and it tells me to wait longer. Then next time I log in it says it has gone to voting. I have gotten best answers before that went to a vote and I wasn't the first to answer. Many people give the same answer, but I think the one that gives the best reason WHY they answered the way they did should get the vote, not necessarily the first one. If people are gonna vote, they need to read ALL the answers, not just the first one they like. It's like voting for President by how you like the sound of their first name or something.

I can't stand when answers are left for voting; it's waay irritating. I have to wait all kinds of weeks for the best answer and I think that the voters don't always choose the best answer. I like it when the voter picks the answer that gave what the questioner asked. That's why I made a vow to myself and my answerers that I would always choose best answer and always thank them. I think that people leave best answers up to voters because it's hard to choose best answer. It's also not really that hard when you think about it because you as the questioner is supposed to choose best answer based on what kind of answer you were looking for. It just shows that people are lazy and don't really care when they leave it to voting. I totally agree with you!

I agree, when you are need of an answer and people come to your aid to help you out, at least have the consideration to vote a best answer, even if they are all good.

I frequently p.c.. the guy who responded the question the perfect. i stumble on alot of human beings provide stable responses, yet some human beings in simple terms form of pass over what the question easily asks. I easily have failed easily essays by utilising doing that, so I do form of tend to deliver that over.
