How do you remove scratches on a DVD with toothpaste?

I've actually done this but to a CD. It did work but it took a long time. However a DVD is a different story. Commercial DVDs are actually dual layered. Essentially recorded onto twice. To read the different layers the laser in your player actually refocuses making one layer fuzzy and the other in focus. Kind of like a microscope in high school. This ability to focus on the different layers of a DVD is very dependent on the thickness of the plastic being pretty uniform throughout the surface of the disc. Since when you use the toothpast you're basically removing tiny pieces of the plastic it might still be unreadable even if the scratches are gone. But hey if it doesn't work anyway what have you got to lose right? The way I did it was I got a good plain white tooth paste (not gel) and took an inside out sock ( yeah seriously) and just rubbed in random circles. Don't focus on any one scratch no matter how bad it is. Try to be as even as possible and add as much paste as needed. If the cloth starts dragging and feeling rough you need more paste. When you get done (it may take a few rounds) clean the disc off with cool water and dab it dry with a towel then remove ny fingerprints with a tissue and try it in the player. Don't worry it won't hurt your player as long as the disc is dry and clean. I hope it works but don't get you hopes up. Email me and let me know if it does so I can feed my head hehe
