be sure to clean it well with soap and water, then use an antibiotic cream like neosporin or triple antibiotic. cover with a bandaid or gauze and tape. since it's on your hand you will need to repeat several times a day.
plaster as recommended earlier seems to work better on a body part that doesn't get washed or dirty as often as your hands.

Soak the hand in warm salt water for half an hour a day, Then dry the hand and put antibiotic cream on it and then bandage it. Do this every day and you should be fine. If the cut is deep have the hand sticthed by a doctor. The cream you can buy at a drug store.

If it is really bad (large, contaminated with dirt or you have exposed tendons or "deep" structures) then see your doctor. It might need a professional "cleanout" and/or sutures.
If not, clean it out with a good anti-bacterial soap like chlorhexidine or betadine and dress it with Xeroform (if you can get it) or lots of a triple antibiotic ointment and clean gauze.

keep it covered at all times just put a plaster on the covering and keep changing the outer one when it gets dirty
