"The Secret"......?
What do you think of the new book / dvd entitled "The Secret"?
In case you have not heard of it... it is sweeping the nation with supposed scientific proof that the power of positive thinking can get you whatever you want....i.e., diamond necklace, better job, financial satisfaction, etc.

I wouldn't call it scientific as much as I would philosophical. Also, I was a bit disappointed that it details attributes and experiences of the laws of attraction, but in the end it focuses on solopsistic drives - money, and shallow, self serving goals.
By that message alone, It's obvious that the world already operates that way - "Wear a fake smile, and people give you money". And while those who have everything may have learned to advance the laws of attraction to gain from them, nobody ever talks about how empty most of them are inside, and how their emptiness leads to less "positive" things such as genocides, wars, and caste systems.
You can't use the laws of the universe to attract an illusion and expect the results to be salvation.

It is not new. The concept has been around for a long time and it has been knowledge accessable to the general public for a long time. For example, we generally know about visualization and positive thinking. Feng Shui is also a part of this. There is no vendetta that keeps us from knowing these things. It seems to have positive results. However, the other night, I was talking to my BF on the phone about positive things and then someone knocked on the door with bad news. So it is helpful, but you still have to work at what ever situation arises in your life.

If memory serves Me correctly, wasn't the preface to the second eddition of Norman Vincent Peales "The Power of Positive Thinking" {aka Think and grow Rich} something along the lines of ........." When I first wrote this book I had no idea how successful it would become...."? Or am I wrong?

well, the thing about that is that is you think positively then of course you're going to want to do well, but it's not just the thinking that will get you there, it's the action/what you will do that will get you what you want...so i think its just stating the obvious but making it public so people would buy it...

It's not scientific and it's not new. The book's been out for years.
And there's an even less "woo-woo" version: "The Little Engine That Could."
