Is it just me or does everyone here get the same feeling........?

Everytime you open up your yahoo account to check your mail you freeze for a moment or two because you are praying that you will see

SENDER:Yahoo Answers and SUBJECT: Yahoo Answers: Your answer has just been choosen as the best answer.

On top of that when you see that the asker chose it instead of the voters you feel like doing a cart wheel and giving a thank you speech. It happens to me all the time. What about you?

I'm new to Answers but I definitely get that too. And I also appreciate it more when the asker chooses as opposed to voters; I feel like my answer was more useful to them specifically, and they were the one wondering enough to ask in the first place. It doesn't help that I often seen answers chosen by voters that don't actually answer the question because the answerer didn't bother reading the whole thing. I feel less validated when voters choose even if I know my answer was good because what they select doesn't always make sense.

This corner of the internets is so addictive.. I keep watching my best answer percentage [including adjusting for the questions that aren't resolved yet] and comparing other peoples' answers to mine for content and helpfulness. I need to get a real life.

    Nah. It's just you.

It's not as though any asker is REQUIRED to follow certain rules in selecting a best answer. Many questions are the products of idle minds (or desperate homework students).

There are a few questions where I believe that the asker was legitimately helped, but those are very few.

Have you ever voted for your own answer and received 10 more points?

Erm...I just arranged it so that I'd block any more Best Answer notices since I get at least five or more a day. Sometimes when I'm gone for two days without checking my email, I get washed away by 24 Best Answer notices. The unfortunate thing about it is that I cannot receive any private messages (emails) from the other users here because yahoo uses the same email address for both things.

Yes I do like it when I get a BA if the asker chose the BA. That means the information I gave them was helpful and they took the time to chose the BA. If it goes into voting most of the time people just vote they really do not read all the answers. My opinion!!

That is a VERY good feeling when I am chosen Best Answer by the person who asked the question. It means I helped someone solve a problem and makes me feel good.

I do still feel good when I am voted Best Answer because it means other people liked what I said and might have been useful for them as well.

I especially like it when my answer is not the first one and they went through all the answers and selected mine best. (most people that vote, vote for the FIRST answer just to get the 1-point.)

I also like the added point when someone gives me a thumbs up point after I have been selected best answer. That a nice thank you when someone else likes my answer.

Source(s): The points are a means of thank you. (and penality for violations)

Its not just you. It's like getting a pat on the back every time you get a "best answer".

That rarely happens to me, but when it does I am overcome with indifference.
