If they tell you "i'm gay" or if they refer to "my boyfriend, Bill" (in the case of a guy) or "my sweetie, Denise" (in the case of a woman), that person is probably gay. otherwise, u shouldn't speculate--find other things to occupy your mind. Like Sudoku or reading tthe National Enquirer.
