Should I lend out my car?

I have a nice car. Some of my friends keep asking me to drive my car and when I say no, they make me feel uncomfortable. Most of them let each other drive each others car.

Update:

I let a couple of close guy friends drive it because they have a job and insurance - now alot of others want to drive it.

Ben Franklin said it best - "Never a borrower or lender be" . You can lend your car if you can deal with consequence of the car being damaged and maybe [if the driver is uninsured] totaled with no financial compensation.

Generally speaking your insurance will cover you and other occasional drivers, but check your policy. If the other drivers are young (under 25) I believe some insurance companies will not cover them.

So if you can afford the loss of the car, and being able to provide the gift to others of letting them drive your car makes you feel good - go for it. If you cannot afford the loss of the car then don't lend it.

Nobody should ever be behind the wheel of your car but YOU . Just imagine what would happen to you if that person has an accident and kills somebody , or injures someone for life. You want to pay for somebody elses lifetime hospital bills. It is insane to even think about it . People that ask you to do that are not your friends . If you are still on a parent's insurance it's even worse . No parent should have to go through that .

I hope you are mature enough to listen and never do that .

I dont lend my car to anyone and dont borrow anyones car that way you could save potential conflict that could arise from an accident and the excess fee, plus the premiums, and even just something as simple as a flat trye or radio stops working.

So I wouldnt let anyone drive my car that way your not playing favourites

NO, I wont lend my car out nor will i practice that rountine because other person may do that, you work hard for your car and i cant see some one asking to borrow a car tell them to go and RENT a car. i find that persons do not take care of other person property like they do there own, when your car needs to fix you have to fix it so JUST SAY NO! if they are your friend they will remain you friends regardless if you lend them you car. give them a ride yes, lend them my car no

No, way... you should never let anyone drive your car... Because if anything happens it will still be your responsiblity.. If they don't want to be your friend because of that? then my advice for you is to find more mature friends...

    - If they drink and drive w/ your car... Your car will be impounded for 30days, even if your not drinking... So, don't trust anyone w/ your car... not work the risk for friends...

I wouldn't. I let one on my friends drive my car, and she accidentally drove over grass one time. Annnnd, I also let one of my "so called-friend" drive my car, and he nearly killed us. He hit a guardrail on the highway, and I took the blame for it. It went on my dad's car insurance and on my driving record(it's gone now) but boy, was I in troubbbbbbbbbbbbbbblllleeeee.

Just say NO..... Should you let anyone use it and it gets wreaked, can you replace it??? Just say no, let them earn their own. You probably work too hard to just let somebody abuse it. I know, because when I rent cars, they get real abused. Usually just new tires.......But seriously, do not let them make you feel bad for saying no. Also, your coverage, if you do have full coverage, usually will not apply to other drivers. So be careful, and use your instincts and JUST SAY NO!!!
