What are some good thnings to do to shake nerves or preserve your voice before a preformance?

I am in a musical and want my preformance to be the best it can be.

    don't neglect your body. Get sleep, eat healthy (avoid dairy) and drink plenty of water. Try to limit caffeine and keep your stress level down.

    Protect your voice. Keep it hydrated (if you live in a dry area maybe stay in the hot shower for a while or breath some steam from heated water) and try not to talk too much - limit time on the phone with your friends. If rehearsals are running long, limit backstage chatter and try to stay relaxed and focused. Bring water or tea and take time backstage or while cues are being fixed to stretch and breathe calmly. Do NOT strain your voice in any other activity (like sports) screaming and yelling. (especially screaming.)

    For the days of performances, take your warm-up very seriously. Leave yourself time to be early to the theatre. I'm a big believer in the body-voice connection so I always advocate really focusing on a physical warmup - get there an hour early and do deep breathing, stretching, and yoga for focus and power before getting into your costume and makeup. Vocal warmup - free your voice by starting with breathing, then hums and vocalizations of vowels, and moving on to your singing scales. BREATHE BREATHE BREATHE! it's the most important thing. Supporting your voice with breathing is going to make all the difference.
