Question about notepad?

I made a chart of 5 columns. It's for taking meds. name, amt, strnth, when. But when I print it out the columns go all over the place. They don't stay in line where I want them. WHY? Be specific on how to fix this. I'm self taught. I'm pretty good though. Just don't go tech on me. thanks.

Notepad is really not meant to do what your trying to do. Try using Microsoft Word instead. I have attached a link for a template that is already set up for you to print. Search for additional templates under "Medication Log" Download and open.

You need excel or microsoft word

I believe a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper can print 80 characters in a row in notepad. If your columns are taking up more than 80 characters in a row then your columns are going to break over multiple lines and look weird. If you're really trying to print the data in a tabullar format, try using excel.

Notepad doesn't preserve the spaces or tabs you put between your columns, that's why your having that problem. When you type, say, two spaces, notepad "has no respect..." It just mashes down the tabs and spaces into one space. To get it done as spaces and tabs, the way you want, you'll have to, like the folks have said above, use Word or Wordpad. If you want, just simple and easy, without all the guff (like for your meds table), then stick with Wordpad. It's got plenty of fanciness and it's easy to learn, and above all, it's "got respect!"

Always use as many single-space to align column. Do not use tab. And do not use more than 80 characters a row.

notepad doesn't have features like that - you should use Wordpad instead.
