i had the same problem and it was because the outlet pipe from the machine was too low (it was one of those multi drain waste water traps)so just lifted the hose right up and end of problem. Also if you can,i would unscrew the trap on the pipe and clean it out(remember to put a bucket underneath before you unscrew it!)

Your washing machine drain should be going to an open ended pipe, the top of which is just below the top of the machine, then to a U bend, then to drain. This performs 2 functions, the U bend prevents the smell fron your drain, The air gap where the pipe goes in stops back- syphoning (which is what is happening.

Is the washing machine connected to the sink drain with an adaptor just below the waste outlet on the sink? If that is the case, first go to DIY store, get some silicon sealant (this is your insurance policy!!!) now, remove the U bend under the sink, make sure its clean (use the bathroom basin...not the sink!!! to clean. When you have got it clean, dry well, remove the seals, put some silicone sealant each side of the seals, re-assemble. Silicon sealant oozing out all over??? great!!.Leave to 'go off' overnight. Get some washing soda, put the plug in the sink, fill the sink with very hot water, throw the bag in the sink, then pull the plug.....and unblock the rest of the drain.

Now, for your machine... Get another bag of soda, no clothes (in machine) put whole bag in machine, (open bag first) and a very hot wash. This will clear all that greasy gunge from your drains ...all the way. I do this every month or so, keeps everything running sweet.

My email is on my profile if you still got probs...

Sounds like the waste water from the washer/sink is running back into the washing machine. You need to check the pipe that runs from the back of the washing machine, it needs to run vertically up the wall, then turn through 90 degrees then back down. This will stop the waste water from running back into the machine.

As you see, there are many possibilities. I know your budget won't afford a plumber, but contact the minister at your neighborhood church and ask him if he knows a good handyman in the area who might be able to stop by and help you. I'm sure it's nothing horribly expensive nor difficult to fix, but the list of possible causes is kind of long and might frustrate you to try to do yourself. Most of the time, you can get someone decent through a church to come over for $20 and a good cup of coffee.

I don't even like to leave mine overnight, but I would suggest that 24 hrs is about the max. I know I used to do 2 or 3 days, but now, if it's more than 2 days, I'd prefer to re-wash them.
