Where is a good area to live in if I go to NYU?
I just got accepted into NYU, and since I'm a graduate student I didn't think I'd want to live on-campus (which may have been a bad idea!). Where are good areas to live in if I am going to be going to NYU? I want a mostly-safe area, that I can easily get to and from the village, & that won't cost me over $2000 a month (if possible!).
Thanks :)

You should have gone for student housing -- it would have been much cheaper.
Living in Manhattan will be difficult, unless you get a roommate or live in a rathole. You may try Hoboken, NJ. You can take the PATH train to the Village. Brooklyn is another alternative.

see if you can still get into the graduate dorms. these are high-rise apartments (not traditional dorms, but apartments) that are actually affordable in Manhattan. the east village is ok but really not that cheap, either. i like murray hill, but again, not cheap. other than that, consider commuting.
