Call capital one and tell them the payment got lost and that you are doing a stop payment on it through your bank. Then over the phone make the past due payment. IF you have never been late before, they will usually remove the late fee. So ask if they can do that too if you have been paying the bill on time. Then make sure that you do that stop payment on the check as well so in case it shows up, they don't cash it.

I would do exactly what the first poster suggested. I would also (if possible) send them a copy of your bank statement with the space where the Capital one payment was....this way they have the date that the other checks were dated or cleared so that they know that this was not the ole...check is in the mail story that they have probably heard 1k times.

    GOOD LUCK

p.s. you can also pay ON LINE and it is never late there!

You simply contact Capital One and explain it to them. Assuming you've never asked for this before they should grant you a customer service adjustment on the late fee. Cancel payment on that check and then pay it over the phone.

Credit card companies (fka "banks") are known for this crap. It is probably sitting in a stack on someone's desk & it will get cashed only after you throw repeated screaming hissyfits & threaten to close your account. At any rate, close it anyway. For that matter, stop borrowing money AT ALL. Then you NEVER have to worry about "late" payments to creditors again. It has worked like a charm for us since 2002.

Sorry that you've been skunked by Crapital One!
