cheapest wedding photography in estes park, CO?
My friend is getting married in May in Estes Park, and it's a very low key, simple wedding. She's wanting a good photographer for as cheap as possible (not wanting to spend thousands or even hundreds of dollars if possible). She's been looking online for photographers but the cheapest she's found is one hour for $400, the rest are in the thousands. She'll be married outdoors at rocky mountain national park. Any ideas for a professional, affordable, quality photographer in that area? Thanks!
she's having a really small number of guests too, like 10-20

Is there a university that has a fine arts program nearby? She could ask if a photography student would be willing to do it for the experience. She could pay him for his film and a bit for his time.

The thing about wedding photography is that it's not rocket science! Absolutely she wants the pictures to be gorgeous and fabulous without paying a premium. But...if she's got a friend who knows a little something about a camera...some of our best pics were done with a point n punt! My father-in-law's, to be presise...that's the one that got enlarged!
So here's what I (and I photograph weddings all the time) suggest...they find someone who is semi-competant and go to the location. Scope out places to photograph and do a dry run. The friend needs to remember a few key things: If the bride is heavier, shoot down on her a little (yeah, groom too!). (I bring a little step stool.) Position a shorter groom uphill a little. Fluff out trains, make sure that flowers are positioned properly, corsages, boutenirs, like that. Don't have them say "cheese", rather things like "yes" for a soft smile, make a joke for a big laughy smile, and get some soft, gazy expressions too. Also...very important!...have the subjects extend their chins and drop them a little. This takes off 10 pounds and 5 years.
Get some candids...very important. Kissing pictures are a must too! Watch for mergers...these are things like trees up the nose or other parts of the scenery which "blend" into the subject. (My first engagement pictures...gorgeous pose of the two of them...but it looked like he had a fire hydrant for a booger! Horrible!! Ruined the whole picture!...until I edited it out with my Adobe...)
Shoot digital if possible...it allows for a gazillion shots, and with a newer photographer, the more shots you get, the better chance you have of getting THE shot. (My skills have progressed significantly since I started shooting with a digital cameral...I am not afraid of the shot and wasting a frame anymore.)
As an aside with digital cameras...my mom has a point n punt digicam. It was $200 (and worth every penny!) and produces the most GORGEOUS images. She took better quality pictures with it than did the pro. Really!
Now, after you read this, I realize that this is not for the faint of heart, but it's a possible solutions...it IS a way to save some dollars.
Good luck and best wishes to her!

~ Pray that the couple will be blessed... that they are going to be equally yoked... that the photographer(s) and videographer(s) will bless the couple with better than what a studio may have to offer.
~ I would talking with the people invited to the wedding...
~ Those who will videotape the wedding, ask if they would [a]... use a tripod to keep the shots steady; [b]... have it put on a DVD for the couple; and [c]... to have them give it to you... reason: you will provide a single combination of all movies made... if everyone agrees.
~ For everyone else, see if the couple would agree to use the $400 for disposable FLASH cameras with development included... then give a camera to each table or person designated to take photos of their table and shots relavent to the wedding, then turn them back in to the couple. Note: for outdoor... if much green... use Fuji film... awesome for outdoor shots!
~ This way, the photos will be developed... providing a great selection of photos and people present.
~ The people doing any video will have (hopefully) good steady shots of the ceremony and/or activities and the awesome outdoor setting of the rocky mountain national park.
~ ~ Of the people doing video work, ask if any of them would be willing to donate their editing experience an making a compilation wedding video for the couple with input from the pictures and video's taken... Time no problem, as they would be doing it on their own time... most studio's would ask for three to six months to complete a project like this... more expensive ones can do it same day. But, funds are limited. If you don't ask, you won't receive.
~ It's cheap... It's affordable... It will do the job.

Cheap usually means no quality. You want a photographer that still uses FILM not digital prints. No matter who you choose. Digital prints are not coming out as well as film still. Yes all quality photographers are more than 2,000 dollars. Either pay it or have a family member take the photos.

My husband does weddings in Estes for $375/hour. Visit our web site. If she likes what she sees, have her email or call us. If we don't have her date booked yet, we would be willing to make a deal for her.

Once the party / event is over, all you have left are the memories...and the pictures!
à think it is necessary to spend in them. After all, you don't want your pictures to be taken by an amateur and then having them come up blurry!
