Would Erik Morales be successful if he'll go up to his comfortable wt. 140 lb division and revitalize himself

He seemed to be having hard time making 130 lb wt. Even if he made it the last time losing 10lbs or so in just a month, it seemed to affect his endurance, stamina, and even his punching power. Is it time to renew himself and move to higher wt. class? After all, the only man to beat him undistputably is Manny Paquiao, the heaviest bomber at 130 lb. division. Would it have been JMM or MAB it would have been a different fight. What do you think so?

I think 135 lbs is more suited for him. Guys at 140 are a lot bigger than Morales, especially at fight time where they'll be coming in at close to 150, so he'll be at a disadvantage. Morales' height, reach and punching power, I think, will still be competitive in the lightweight division, and the additional poundage is not that significant as to diminish his speed. Besides, Morales is still relatively young at 31. All he need is a new trainer and some motivation. Perhaps, he should get Roach.

I am going to get my head bitten off for this one. Erik Moralas is nothing great. My first fight seeing him was the first match vs MAB. Erik lost but got a BS decision in his favor. Ric is not my true name, it is Eric. So I tend to like a guy with a similar name. But Moralas looks like the worm at the bottom of a Tequilla bottle. He is easily beatable. I'd fight him and beat him, but then I am 175, lol. Guys at Jr Welterweight are slightly less in walking weight than I. Maybe 10 lbs or 15. But those guys are trained hard in that sport. If he can't hang at 130, a 10lbs step will make him hurt worse.

It's hard to say. He's been in so many tough, brutal wars and the punishment may have just taken a toll on his body. But you're right, he's been killing himself to make 130 so maybe a climb in weight would do him some good. Diego Corrales is basically doing the same thing after years of killing himself to fight at 30 and 35, he's now going up to 47 to fight at welterweight. I'm interested to see how strong Corrales will be at 47 and maybe Erik may be better and stronger at 140 as well. They won't have to kill themselves to make weight, so it might make a difference in how they perform with the added weight.

I don't think junior welterweight is the way to go for Erik Morales. Moving up to lightweight is a good enough transition for his maturing body. The 140-pound division will be too big of a leap for Morales to make. He couldn't even perfect his ascent to lightweight almost 2 years ago, what more going 10 pounds north? I think Morales should give lightweight a crack. He will be more comfortable there with less danger in terms of opposition.

Eric Morales is a hall of fame fighter who would be "successful" at any weight he chose to fight. As to whether he still has the desire and ability, that is a question only Eric can answer. He as earned the right to go out under his own conditions. Should he choose to fight again, it should be with Marquez. Barrara and Pacquiao have had their time with Eric and there is no reason to fight them again. His career is already storied, he doesn't need the money, and clearly he is well aware fo the the effect father time has on aging boxers. The final decsion is Eric's.

to move up would be the wrong move for erik, she gave the sport so much of himself it may be time to quit. the body is not built to be abuse to often before it'll shut down on you and at 140 you have some great fighter there that'll give morales a tough time. if he needs to make some money he may be able to talk corey spinks to meet up at 140 where he won't have to take a huge risk. but to continue to put all that wear and tear on a body that so small as it is, is not a good idea. just watch how evander holifield ends up and he's in tremendous shape.

Interesting question and a point well taken. But I'm of the opinion that he should retire. What else has he got to prove?
