If you're asking the question on Yahoo, you are probably not technical enough to save your PC if something wrong occurrs.

I'd leave Vista for your NEXT PC.

I have the solution to your Vista Download Question... The answer is YES! In response to a few other posts regarding Windows knowing about the downloaded installs, there are two cracks that I've heard of that work for it. The first one simply freezes the 30day trial timer, and even allows you to use the Windows updater. The second is a regular crack, but then there is a Firefox site you can go to and update your PC without worry of Miscrosoft.

I have a few suggestions for you though, should you want to download Vista:

    1. Buy a few removable hard drives (the kind you can pull out from the front of your PC tower) You can install Vista on one of the hard drives, and keep the second hard drive with Windows XP. (You can boot from either hard drive, whichever is in the PC at the time) You'll have the stability of XP, a somewhat trusted OS, and you'll also have the "cutting edge" Vista to play around with and explore.

    2. If you are interested in Vista just because of a few of the new "features", you may as well just switch to Macintosh because that's where Microsoft got the ideas for most of the cool changes they made.

All that said, wait until Vista has been out for at least six months so they can get all of the bugs out of it and save yourself a lot of hassle.

You should check to see that you have enough memory and a processor that is fast enough, for you to get the best results with Vista. Keep in mind, that most of the drivers and software out there was created for XP, so it may not be compliant with Vista. Some companies have created software updates, but most have not.

If you don't need a new computer yet, wait a year. Everryone will hopefully catch up by them.

You asked if you should download it. If you get it from the web as a torrent, keep in mind that you won't be able to update Vista, as Microsoft's authentication tool will not register it as a valid copy.

    Good luck.

It is really not so good.

And it will give you night terrors just trying to get what should be simple tasks to work.

Linux is by far easier to configure and work with than Vista is.

I am a pretty competent and technically savvy person and Vista even provides a real challenge for me at times.

    I am just being honest.

If it were me I would stay with XP if you already have it because XP will be supported long after Vista dies it's well deserved death.

The new Windows "Seven" or what ever they will call it is due to be released sometime in late 2008 or early 2009 and hopefully Microsoft will have learned something from their mistakes with Vista by then.

The only thing that you really need to be aware of is that Vista is a very high maintenance operating system.

Vista is a plague Microsoft is trying to spread. It will consume your computer, your family, and everything you ever loved. Stay with Windows XP Pro, or you're probably better off learning to use Ubuntu Linux.

In fact, you might do well to either get a second internal harddrive, or just one large one and learn about partitions so you can have the option of running different operating systems. DO NOT USE EXTERNAL HDD. If you're running anything else USB, your external will slow down...use them for storage, but you usually don't want to run applications from them, let alone an operating system if you ever intend to use multiple USB devices.

You shouldn't unless it's Windows Vista compatible.

windows vista sucks worse than windows xp when they first released it & that right there is saying allot, i wouldn't get vista for another few years until they fix all the bugs exploits & this other **** that wrong with the crap....

in other words don't do it, everyone regrets it after they do.

    hope that helps

The unfastened version of AVG would not have any firewall or something and u r laptop would be extra venerable to virus in case you have information superhighway. it purely unearths viruses and cope with them, it would not preclude viruses from invading u r comp
