What are these things in my task manager?

And how do I get rid of the things I don't need?

Update:

I mean - how do I know what they are and what I can get rid of? How do I get rid of them permanently?

If you're talking about all those strange things under the Processes tab, those are all the different programs that run behind the scenes whenever you turn on your computer. Some are vital and should not be removed. For example,on my computer I have cavtray.exe and cavrid.exe. They are part of my antivirus program and I definitely wouldn't want to get rid of them.

It'll take some time, but I suggest you Google the name to find out what these programs are and if it's safe to nuke them. (Google seems to have the most extensive data base for these programs.) You might also find out that one or two of them might be suspected spyware. You should keep a list of all the programs and every so often open up the Task Manager and do a comparison. If you see any new ones, find out what they are.

Just one word of caution: be absolutely certain you really want to get rid of something. Google might tell you it's a non-essential program (by itself) but can you be 100% sure some other program doesn't need it to run properly? If it's not spyware, and if in doubt, leave it alone.

whatever with .exe is an executable(learn application). The one with HP is a Hewlett Packard application. The ones I might fear approximately are SSCEVT and ctfmon. You must see what systems begin whilst the laptop is booted, investigate the begin menu. Problem is those style systems are designed to stick hidden, except a keystroke blend is typed. Also, you'll be able to pass to START/Control Panel/Add-take away systems, you'll be able to see all set up systems. Note: Lots of those systems ship an e mail with a document. You can do a seek on keystroke loggers and discover one of the most keystroke combinations. Problems is he/she will see what you're watching for if you don't discover and give up the application.
