I had mine removed a year and a half ago, and it was in rough shape. I had it done laparoscopically, which is the standard way now. I felt better than I had been feeling IMMEDIATELY. It will take a few days to stop feeling sore all over - thats from the anasthesia. After about two-three weeks the incisions began to heal, and that caused a lot of itching and stinging, and was annoying, but nothing, NOTHING compared to the gallstones!
If you are taking a narcotic painkiller, make certain that you take a fiber supplement, as the side effects will otherwise cause you to be irregular. And that brings me to a rather indelicate subject-- for a little while, maybe a year or more, you may experience a rather unpleasant side effect. You may get the sudden and inconvenient urge to void you bowels within minutes after eating. (this comes from a massive bile dump- you don't have a storage area for it now!) Its hard to cope with, but it will pass eventually. Eat meals small in proportion, and keep taking fiber. Just know that you are going to feel better. In my case, I had no idea HOW much pain I was in until I felt what it was like to have it gone. Good luck!

I had my gall bladder removed through laparoscopic surgery on the 20th of December last year.
I was in overnight and had problems with muscles cramping for about a week after the surgery. Apart from that and the odd upset stomach, it took about a month or so until I felt completely normal again.

Some people go back to work after 3 days!
Mine was in real bad shape when removed, so I think that is what took a little longer.
You say "feel normal." After about a week the only thing to annoy you are the stiches. And even those come out pretty
quick!!!!
Sorry, you can't milk this one for too long. It is really a pretty minor thing, and you will be happy it is gone!
It took at least two years for Dr.'s to figure what it was that was bothering me!!! With other health issues I had seen a lot of Dr.s, believe me!!!!! Mad? Yep!
But good riddance!

I had mine out the old fashioned way in 1983 and I was back to haying and milking in one week. I was also nursing a newborn at the time.I don't know, people tell me that I'm very tough , but that is what I found. I was at the hospital for two days after the surgery and checked myself out against doctors orders. I do still have an incision scar 11 inches long.Good Luck!

that depends. i had my gallblader out back in 1987. back then you couldnt go back to work for6 weeks. they made a big incisiuon in your upper abdomen. so it was very painful. now adays they make a very small incision and from what i heard you can go back to work very quickly. you need to make sure you dont lift anything heavy. dont strain. if you have problems with constipation check with your doctor and see if they can give you something for that because you dont want to make it worse. just take it easy. you should feel like your normal self in about 2 weeks. take care of yourself

It took me a month to fully recover. I was able to stand up straight in 10 days but it took me longer to get to the point to where I was totally out of any discomfort.
