Ask him if he works out. Even if he doesn't that will make him feel good and it will for sure start a conversation. If he says he doesn't tell him it looks like he does. And if he says he does tell him it shows.-matt

There's nothing wrong with simply introducing yourself. "Hi, I'm <whateveryournameis>".

You can always follow that up with "I've noticed you take this bus a lot too. You going to work? What do you do?"

If he has even the slightest interest in talking to you, then that should get your conversation going just fine.
