If you use XP , XP comes with built in Roxio burner. A very simple one though. Stick your CD into your drive , then right click on the file or folder than you want to burn to the CD. right- Click send to CD drive. And your file will be burned into your CD.
This is a simple way , there are other programs called Nero etc.. They are more sophisticated programmed that allow you to burn ISO files into CDs etc..

That process is called burning a cd. Here's what you need:
1. cdrw drive. Thats a type of drive that will allow you to make your own cds. If your computer has usb 2.0, adding a usb cd burner drive will be easy. "Cd burner" is common slang for a cd drive that will make cd's.
2. You need blank cdr's. These are the disk that you will be burning your data to. They can be found at most office supply stores Walmart, etc. You can also buy them online.
3. It does not matter what type of files you burn to a cd. Picture files, movies files, music documents... whatever you want to burn to a cd is fine.
However, if you want to make a music cd - i.e. a cd that will play music in a stereo cd player, you need to burn it as a music cd.
If you are making any other type of cd, you burn it as a data cd.
4. You need a program that will burn the cd's. I recommend Iomega Hotburn Pro as it is very easy to use.

5. Cd's will only hold a certain amount of data. Some hold 750 mb some hold less than that.
6. Once your cd burner drive is installed, and some cd burning software is installed, you open the cd burning software then add files and folders that you want to burn to cd. This is a very easy process in Iomega Hotburn Pro. You simply click once on a file (or folder) in Windows explorer and drag it into the program Window.
7. Put a cdr disk in the drive and close the drive.
Iomega Hotburn Pro will tell you how much free space is on the disk, and how much space you are using. To be safe, leave at least 20 mb free space.
8. You click on the button to burn the cd.
Depending on the speed of the drive, this might take a long time, or maybe only 5 minutes. The program will tell you when its done.
At that point, whatever files or folders you added (in step 6.) have been copied to the cdr in your cdr drive.

You need a cd burner, for one thing. A regular cd player only reads what is on a cd, it doesn't write data to one.
If you have a cd or dvd burner, then round up the files you want to write to cd, put a cd-r [recordable cd] in the drive, choose either the folder or highlight all the files in the folder, and right click and choose Send to...and then choose the drive with the cd-r, and Windows will do the job.
Be aware that when choosing audio files, Windows tends to want you to make an audio cd, as opposed to a data cd. If you just want to store the music files on a cd, without these things automatically playing on insert, do as above, but if you want to make an audio cd that works like one you bought somewhere, then you can highlight these music files, and on the left side panel at the top there will be a choice to Copy all files to audio cd, and you can choose that.
