HIV: What is the arguement that is doesn't cause AIDS?
Here's the deal people. I want people who do not think HIV causes AIDS to put simply, why that is the case. I'm a scientist, i'll understand jargon. In this question I DO NOT WANT TO SEE people ranting about either view point. I dont want long spiels just the science.
If you think HIV does cause AIDS, this isn't the place to vent anger at those who disagree. I just want to know the evidence being put forward on the other side.
So. To recap: What is the evidence that HIV does not cause AIDS in humans?
This question is also under STD's.

I read a very interesting article about AIDS and HIV, this was written by Dr.Vernon Coleman. He doesn't believe that there is a connection between HIV and AIDS and even says that most people with AIDS do not have the HIV virus. But then he does not really believe that AIDS is a new disease, just a combination of diseases that already existed. I think you would find the article also very interesting. Go to www.vernoncoleman.co.uk - he has two articles on AIDS look for AIDS and HIV.

As far as I know, scientifically there is no evidence that HIV does not cause AIDS.
HIV is a virus which causes AIDS, that's it in a nut shell.
Treatment can delay the gestation period of HIV so that carriers do not develop full blown AIDS, but HIV will always lead to AIDS in the end. There is no other cause of AIDS.

Human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) carries its genetic formation in RNA rather than DNA. The virus enters human leukocytes by receptor-mediated endocytosis. The virus binds to CD4, the membrane protein characteristic of helper Tcells. Once the virus is inside the cell, the viral enzyme reverse transcriptase synthesizes a complementary strand of DNA, which is then incorporated into the cell's genetic material. When these inserted viral genes are activated, the infected cell begins synthesizing viral proteins. The introduced viral genes take over the cell's synthetic machinery and force the cell to produce additional viruses. these new viruses are then shed at the cell surface. Cells infected with HIV are ultimately destroyed by the formation of pores in the cell membrane as the viruses are shed, cessation of cell maintainence due to the continuing synthesis of viral components, autolysis or stimulation of apoptosis. The gradual destruction of helper T cells impairs the immune response, because these cells play a central role in coordinating cell-mediated and antibody-mediated responses to antigens. Antibody levels decline, immunity is reduced and the body is left with impaired defenses against a wide variety of microbial invaders. Ordinarily harmless microorganisms can initiate lethal opportunistic infections. This is what is called Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

feel kinda bad for that answer, but the points others make are going to be about as credible

I can only assume that anyone who thinks that HIV is not the cause of AIDS in the face of 20 years of research that says it does, is falling back on the vast knowledge gained by their one GCSE in woodwork.

HIV is the infection,it mean the person is infected with virus where as AIDS is syndrome where in many things are included like fever , loss of weight, pulmonary TB, candidiasis .etc.

I understood that if you were HIV+ and went on to develop 2 or more aids related diseases then you were classed as having AIDS.
